12volt living

In any situation when we are with out power for extended times, we may start to struggle with certain things. Today most things are powered by electricity. But certain items are a little more power hungry, so what should we have in our reserves.

It’s Quite simple to keep your mobile phones or tablets charged, actually any small electrical device is quite simple as all you need is a small solar panel and a battery that connects to it and these are available at most good hard wares or just about any where on line and they are not very expensive and will see you through as many days needed. The same goes for your torches, if they mostly run aa batteries there are numerous solar charges out there that will charge your batteries during the day, so the more batteries you have the more solar charges you need, and once again these are not very expensive and are available any where on line.

The same goes for your lanterns as these come in wined up or solar and are great for lighting your house for very long periods. So therefore keeping the basics is very simple but we can also take it to the next level. Your tv that you buy can be a 12 volts so it will run on a 12 volt battery, even fridges are 12 volts, even washing machines are 12volts, this sort of covers most things you run in your house without having to use any inverters as once you start to do that your battery bank needs to grow significantly.

So to run a good small fridge and a tv and lets say some led lighting you will need aprox 3 x 100 amp hr batteries and around 150 to 250 watt solar panel or panels. Now days you can buy many styles of covers that have multitude style of connectors so you really don’t need to be a rocket scientist to work it out,  and as this is a simple blogg there are many tutorials on the net.

So here in Australia we normally get a good amount of sunshine no matter where we are so charging all your batteries should never be a major concern. So as you build your systems you can keep slowly adding batteries and solar panels so you may really be able to run a whole house hold with your own solar built system, even to the point where you can run a small inverter if you choose to have a microwave…

So I just look at my shack or house or whatever as a large caravan. So next time there is a long enduring black out don’t tell your mates or they all might be over for a cold one, which may not be a bad thing after all…

To finish I still recommend all your cooking and heating to heating water to be gas and once again there are many styles of these from very cheap to very expensive, but just keeping a couple of gas bottles for each appliance is wise as gas may not be accessible very easy during blackouts or disasters, but always keeping a few butane cylinders spare wont hurt either as there are many styles of cookers and heaters in the butane family and they are much more portable if need be.

I love knowing that having a few back up ideas always keeps you ahead of most when people wont be able to eat as most things at home need to be cooked ….

So there is my very simple take on solar prepping your whole house.

So if you want to know more leave a comment… just remember proper preparation prevent poor performance.

Sometimes Christians ?

I like to think I am a bible believing person that lives mostly with the authority of Jesus Christ in my life, occasionally stumbling and sometimes challenged and sometimes making mistakes along my life journey. But even now days just like in past generations I also believe as Christians we are challenged more by our own kind rather than the world. So yes if you are a christian you believe in Jesus Christ as our saviour, you believe He is the only way to the Father and you believe in His teaching along the way.

But why do I feel a little Uncomfortable with so many saying they are Christians when all I see is jealousy, I see people judging, gossiping which is an all time favourite I think with most Christians, Divorce is still right up there with Christians and in general they still have their little groups that they stick with and I think the list can still go on. But in general why is this a problem in the Christian community when the bible is so clear about the 10 commandments, that cover most of these areas. Also don’t get me wrong there are still many people in churches that truly give their hearts to Christ and that is the key issue, GIVING YOUR HEART TO CHRIST. Just going to church on a sunday worshipping and then going home and no one would have a clue that you are a Christian is when people should take a good hard look at themselves before they start to look at others. So why are we like this?

Well I know satan still tries to deceive most and in the western world we have not really been challenged in Christianity like most of the world. We really haven’t had to go through really tough times on a whole, once again there are many Christian families battling out there from finances to sicknesses etc, but here in Australia in particular I believe the word is watered down so much that people do not fear God any longer. If we all feared Gods word churches would be very different places not just places for some to catch up with all the latest gossip, or use leaders over little trivial things that most off the time can be resolved between fellow Christians having good communication.

So lets get back to the heart thing, I don’t know but when you normally are a practising Christian and as you walk trying to follow Christ’s example, I know if I start to sway or start breaking the commandments the Holy Spirit start’s to give me the guilt and starts to soften me to the point where I don’t want to do it any more, once again we are all sinners and are not perfect, so asking for forgiveness and trying to set it right is a normal path to take, but what really starts to irritate me is some Christians cant wait to pull you up and let you know what you are doing wrong because someone gossiped about it, and what I love even more is that Christians wont listen to both sides of stories before THEY have judged. The thing is we all come under the authority of God, there is only 1 true God in the Christian beleife, and as Christians know the bible has certain ways to do things so that it helps the person that is starting to sway or what ever.

I love church, and what makes church are the people that attend that church, I have been a Christian now for around 14 yrs and I am still learning every day. But one of the things that I have learnt is, be slow to judge and rather than take the person down, help and guide them to a better place, and this I still am learning to do, so with better grace and with the love of Christ I my self try to do this . Now when I go to church I know there will always be different people at different stages of their walk, but I also know if you are hungry for Christ then treating others the way you want to be treated should be up there with what you practice.

I write this blogg in love for other Christians so that we under stand Gods grace better and why He gave His only one son to come down and die for our sins. I dont want Christians to live in fear, or to live in shame of knowing Christ, because now days it is so much easier to get knocked down by others that it stumbles our walk and makes us more like the worldly people.

What did I learn at church today upset me because as Christians we are a 61% majority but we get shot down by the 2% minority. 2 examples are there is a christian school that would say the Lords prayer once a week before assembly but because 2 families complained that not every one has the same beliefe’s, that now the school responded saying they will only do the lords pray at significant times like Easter and at Christmas. The other is how many Christians voted against gay marriage but the 2% for, won the vote hmmmmm, so no one can tell me whats wrong with this picture.. But I will…… firstly every one wants free speech but as soon as a Christian speaks they all say we hate speech, and we discriminate against everything that is wrong, but I don’t believe Christians stop anyone from doing what they want, but are happy to to talk about it or even debate about it.

So really Christians are not perfect, and as Christian I believe most of us need to be more fearful of God and not water down the bible because some people fear it, and we should show a lot more Christ like love to each other and the world. But also we need to stand strong in what we believe and only because we get shot down by most others, we should not let that spreading the word of Jesus Christ.

I love the story where Jesus is in front of the crowd getting persecuted and as Peter, 1 of His disciples was in the crowd denied Jesus 3 times before He fled in fear, but after the resurrection and Jesus returned telling Peter He will be the rock the church will be built on, and after the disciples got the Holy spirit there was no stopping them..

So what has this got to do with every day prepping? well for starters as Christians I believe most of us think we are in end times so now is the time to stick together, we need to be more prayerful, and not against each other but united under Jesus Christ our saviour, because no one knows the hour of the return of Jesus, SO ARE YOU READY?

Thanks for reading

Have a great day or night no matter where you are in this awesome world.

Have we really progressed. Are u living your dream?

FB_IMG_1491349579352

I sometimes look at some good old classic pictures of the way it use to be in the great depression, and not only that but we have endured many wars and many famines and diseases and really from all that have we really learnt anything.

As I drive to work and sometimes pear at the person in the next car or that person sitting in a bus with their head down or that person sitting at a bus stop all heading to work, I wonder to my self, ARE THEY LIVING THEIR DREAM? But as I drive into the city centre and park my car and walk the rest off the way to the building that I am working on, it doesn’t change, with that person sitting at a coffee shop or someone sitting on a bench, as they prepare for the day I wonder if they are living their dream?

But as my day progresses I am privileged enough to see many office workers as I renovate some very executive offices and their they are, Lawyers, accountants, graphic designers, work agencies and the list goes on I sometimes wonder are they living their dream?

HHMMMM, I just cant imagine most off those people being happy what they are doing as most wont look up or even smile, I still love getting in a elevetor and normally ask what floor they would like so I can press the button for them, and most of the time they are in shock someone spoke to them.

But times have not changed, people still today are stuck in the circle off life as they work there 9 to 5 jobs, and really lets put it down to reality there are not many people that look forward to going to work, and unfortunately for most you are stuck doing that for approximately 50 to 60 years.

But the governments do give you incentives to keep working like super annuation that you can look forward to when you retire. Now really I don’t have the big problem off thinking no one should work, but I like to know how the heck did we get in this position in the first place.

It’s like going back to the roman empire days and you had the kings and the high class people that some how fell into money, but then you always have had the working class, and I ‘ think that has changed in the last 3000 yrs or so. See in the time of depression people were crammed into elevators to go deep under ground and mine all day just to cram back into the elevator just to do it again the next day. This doesn’t sound familiar does it??????

download (1)images (15)

So in some way, have we progressed or have we kept the same formula going, just modernised, now days we have fancy elevators and fancy busses and trains and even cars, but this just sugar coats the one thing that we do, day in day out.

So this brings it to the question that, do we live by choice or are we programmed to follow some sort of formula that just keeps the rich, rich while they keep us occupied with extra tv channels, or lift up the weekends with some great sporting events, and boy do they lift it up here in australia, with a lot of sugar coatings and maybe a bit of fairy dust on the sides…..and this all gives you the weekends to look forward to just so that really at the end off the day you go back to work monday and sit at the same bus stop waiting for the same bus day in day out……

So I hope reading this does not depress you, or even up set you as I say to my fellow workers most days “today we will enjoy it as if we are living our dream…”

So is there a good solution to this, I some times have to wonder, But I know this formula has been working for many centuries now, and it ain’t gonna change in a hurry, But I also know that every day I also work toward’s eternity. Life here is short so we do need to make sure we do try and live our dreams, if not every day we should at least try to prioritise times in your life where you set out some time to live your dream, how ever that may be.

For me some of my greatest joys comes from fathering my children and that is definitely me living my dream…….

have a great and blessed day no matter where you are.

images (17)JUST REMEMBER  YOU COULD BE THAT PERSON SITTING ON A BUMPER OF A TRAIN……..

The next Gen.

This generation of children are raised in a very different world to what I was raised in, and we are talking only 40 yrs difference. So what has happened in the last 40 to 50 yrs.

Well where do we start

The biggest things that really irritate me is that today so many so called experts reckon they have it all figured out and some how they get these laws passed in parliment but in most cases they have made it a lot worse for the majority.

As I was growing up schools had the cane or the feather duster handle and if you were bad, by the third strike you would have to go to the head masters office for a good whack, very quickly you learnt to behave. At one stage if you smacked your child on the bottom, because they were miss behaving, that would of put the matter to the end very quickly.

In these instances I believe these types of punishment installed some fear into the children, witch led to some control by the authority off the time. Now your children can pretty well have full control of a house hold as soon as they know their rights. I have been in a few house holds where children run a muck and the language that comes from there mouths is enough to make even the hardened criminal look lame, but you know what, you can’t lift a finger, and using any force to put them in their room’s, well what can I say, because some really smart person said lets give 5 yr old’s the right to do as they please..

Now don’t get me wrong there have been many parents that have abused the word, smack, and there is a big difference to a smack on the bottom to a full punch as if you fighting another adult, or even using certain utensils like the good old rolling pin…..

See in today’s society the children see this big difference

what was right then is wrong and what was wrong then is now right

A good ways to see it before we look at it in my view is this,In todays society suicide rates are through the roof compared to the 70s, especially in the youth, but the thing is you never hear about it on the news or other wise they may need another news service just to cover it daily. Divorce rates are also through the roof compared to the 50s, I don’t believe divorce was nearly existent then. Your freedom of speech is pretty well out the door now days, transgender’s are now just coming out of the wood works, gay marriage is now part of life and as soon as science allows it men will be giving birth……

But once again we need to keep this into context of today’s children and then we wonder why so many are messed up compared to only 50 yrs ago, well just look at the pressures that they need to face, and all I know children are very well influenced very easily, so now you have a 5 yr old that sees 2 women kissing and will think that it is ok and that she now wants to try it, but because she comes from a christian family it is not something that they agree with but because freedom of speech is now out of the window and some one has made the law up to suit probably there own needs, well I can see where this is going.

So today children need to face a lot more challenges, and unfortunately many parents I know are very frustrated, as their hands are tied. So with this I can really keep on going.

Today more than ever the children’s self image and how they perceive them selves as maybe to fat or just to short etc as there are so many magazines and internet photos of what you should look like, even right down to the fashion you need to keep….

Back in the 50s they did not have it all together many people suffered depression and there still was suicides and many men still abused their families.

But you would think in today’s society we would be able to have a little more control in our family environments. But unfortunately it just gets harder as more laws are past that has changed the full dynamics of most families

I still love the way the bible puts it

“men you have control of the house and you make the final decisions as long as they are Godly, but in return you must protect your family with your life, women love and obey your husbands, children love and honour and obey your parents.”

So here in Australia I hope that we never see the likes of hard times like economic collapses or war as today’s children that mostly stick to circular tv, and stuck in their mobile devices will find it a lot harder to survive in scenarios that they have no clue in, so as parents we will always have a up hill battle, but as parents of these times, we grew up in those times so we will always have a upper hand and hopefully be able to pass some of our skills down to our children, so no matter what witty way you come up with just keep up the great work because one thing society cant take away from you and that’s your experiences…
Have a blessed day…. No matter where you are in the world……

A christian view.

As a christian prepper many people ask me about my faith and how it all works in the bigger picture and what makes my faith any different to any ones elses.

A simple question hmmmmmmm. But normally they always top it off with, were is your God in all this, while all this is happening in the world and why would you prep if you trusted fully in your God? hmmmmmmmmm.

So I will answer this in my blogg…

As we know there are many belief systems in this world, and there are extremes of every belief in this world and I mean extremes, and even in my belief as a christian there are many variants of Christianity. But the biggest difference about a bible believing christian is Jesus Christ, and even with most christian beliefes that believe in Jesus, there are many variants on all the ways people believe they need to worship or do all these traditional ceremonies to win them selves some sort of extra privileges in heaven. A large part of my belief is that in my heart that the Holy Spirit has installed in me is the verse in the bible of John 3:16 For God so loved the world He gave His only Son to die for our sins and the only way to heaven is through Him.

So simple isn’t it….. So just in believing in Jesus is your free ticket to heaven, there are no tricks, you don’t even have to jump through any hoops its all written in one little verse in the bible. So what is all the rest of the bible about then if we can get to heaven through one verse? well then we need to practice what we preach and the rest off the bible teaches us how to live, from the ten commandments right up to what to expect in the last days, it covers the beginning of creation, to great floods, to great big battles, it’s put some of the greatest figures to some of the greatest tests, but all these stories are most of the time meaningless unless you have invited Jesus into your heart. This then opens the bible from a novel to true life.

So the the question I always throw back is unless you try reading the bible and try to invite Jesus into your heart, how can you tell me that it’s not true. So wanting to believe needs to be your choice as a true Christian I will never force you to want to believe as it needs to be your own free will, but as I would like to see people saved and in heaven one day as eternity is very long, and once you do choose to become a bible believing Christian then Jesus will help you and change so the rest of the bible you can live by, but the best thing is spending eternity in the great presence of our creater.

So this brings up the other question of why so much evil in the world? So with all this we need to go back to the time of Adam and Eve for when they went against God and chose to listen to the devil and eat of the apple then they allowed sin to enter, that was the time that God pulled away and allowed satan to have certain reign on this earth and God being Sovereign and true to His word has let us have free will, and so entered sin. With sin came diseases, war, painful deaths, jealousy and the list goes on, and so you can just look at today from the beginning, God has allowed us to go and have certain free wills and as we can all see even though all these different religious beliefes were born so were all the nut cases of history.

Right up to now we can see the repercussions of sin, but all this once again came back to God who sent His only Son to die , so that we may have eternal life. So see it is a choice, and if you choose to read the bible you will also know that God has put a time limit for man to turn from there worldly desires to following Christ and focusing on eternity, as every thing on this earth eventually turns to dust and that includes me and you, as there is no way to escape death, but its what we do here and weather we choose to believe is the real answer.

See I told you it’s that simple.

So why be a Christian prepper? As I like to say we may see some perilous times ahead as no one knows the day or the hour of the return of Christ, so yes all those people out there that say they know and have worked it out, are all lying, just so they can get a little attention or just a few more hits on u tube, so we may still see wars or we may see economic collapses and we may see some very devastating earth quakes before Christ returns so just like Noah before the floods no one was prepared and just laughed at him till it started raining.

So there you have it, hopefully a very simple way off looking at the way I see a true bible believing Christian. Yes there are many other people out there that have got some fancy way to con you into there beliefes. But as I heard today unless you taste the chocolate you will never know what it tastes like, so unless you give Jesus a chance, you will never know what it feels like..

So God bless, have a great day or night no matter where you are……..

Busy life. So keep it short

Sometimes in life, no matter how preppared or organised we are, busyness sometimes just caches up with you and before you know it time starts to become against you.

I enjoy my work, it is a 8 hr day followed by a drive home, so then I tend to play with the kids and before you know it again time has gone. Ok so I will do the jobs I was suppose to do tonight on to tomorrows list of things to do, just to realise the next day I get home and before I realise it, those jobs and the next jobs have gone onto the next day’s agenda with a couple of things going onto my weekend list aaahhhhhhhhh.

So now that here in aussie land we are diving into winter and getting shorter days, and dark by around 5.30, yep that’s 5.30, I tend to let things slip a little more every day. So now I am starting to prioritise my time on things that I enjoy doing indoors and infront of a nice heater….. aaaahhhh winter time to read, a time to watch more alternative news, more time to enjoy a good movie and maybe get a bit of extra gaming in, and off course try and write something on my blogg.

So a couple off things I ensure i try to not let go during the winter months, and that is all my deep cycle batteries as over winter there is not as much sun so now they all go on small trickle solar charges that keeps them full at all times, In winter months I also try to ensure all food is rotated and I ensure all my bug out equipment is aerated and clean.

So for a everyday prepper I try to make winter months count just as much as my summer months as I know I tend to get a little lazier during winter. Also winter I find is a great time to buy any extra camping gear as most of the time this is when they clear it out, so everything from fishing rods to tents I find this, is the time to buy.

Another thing I tend to keep in mind is that my BOB (bug out bag) slightly changes for winter to include warmer clothes and even a small butane stove, just in case all the wood is wet, coffee and powder milk with a extra chocolate  bar or two extra. hmmmmmm

So there you have it a short read, as even tonight squeezing it in between kid’s and even clearing out the gutters ready for some heavy rain and getting ready for another big day at work…20170326_192101

So have a great day or night where ever you are on this awesome planet.

lighting up quality.

images (12)images (11)

In today’s day and age we can buy anything from around the world, weather you are buying a torch or a lantern to a solar panel there is something for everyone.

So when it comes to prepping buying the right products at the right price and most importantly the right quality, is pretty important. So I like to bring up a couple of things for me that I like to know is gonna do the job when I expect it to do the job.

The first thing I like to ensure, and is right up there with the best, are my torches, and equally important are the rechargable batteries that go in them, I can tell you now not all torches are the same and most of the time if you are not buying a quality torch, especially in the led range that could spell disaster when you turn it on and its just a dull luminated, well put it this way a match can sometimes give you extra light. Also with torches all led’s are different and when you start to research the different types then you will realise torches arnt as simple as they use to be. I prefer a couple of different torches my self, and I prefer torches that are very bright and have very good throw eg as you point you torch it needs to look like daylight but also very sharp. Also I like solar torches, not as powerful but they are always ready to go if left in sun light and good for close range work and next day you can recharge it, and it’s good to go again. I also ensure all my batteries are of good quality and definitely reading a couple of reviews you will differentiate the poop with the good, also to accommodate all this I need to be able to charge off grid so a couple of solar battery charges never go astray.

images (14)images (13)This also goes with my lanterns, I prefer lanterns that have solar and whined up tops to charge if no sun and also be able to charge from a 12v source that way you have light all night long if desired. Once again having a few different types of both torches and lanterns you should never be left in the dark.

So now you have the basics then come the led lighting if the grid goes down for a while, so then you may need to use larger solar panel attached to lets say around the 100 amp hr battery to light up larger areas with 12v lights, with this I found your string led lights work well and you can by as many meter as needed. Also once again quality needs to be met and with led lights you get what you pay for. As I have been stung many times with inferior cheap products because they look good in pictures and or whatever but once the drivers fail in the led’s , there is no resuscitating them.

So for me all aspects of prepping for emergencies are important, taking short cuts most off the times will lead to failure, and if you are in a emergency situation I like to know I have more light than not enough, but with lights and batteries all need to be checked every 60 to 90 days to ensure it’s all working and fully charged when it is needed, once again I have been burnt with not having things checked and charged regularly.

So I hope what i’m telling you is just some very basic ways to look at ensuring you read a lot of reviews on products before purchasing and just knowing that when the time comes you wont have to stress but know you are WELL prepared, and I believe I have heard this a few times  “but the difference to someone who is well prepared and someone who is not could be death”

So that’s my take , hope you enjoyed .

have a great day…….
